Man Utd enter contract talks with Spanish star
Manchester United have entered contract talks with goalkeeper David de Gea, according to The Athletic.
The Red Devils have been fancied to sign a new keeper in the past few weeks, but it appears they are prepared to stick with De Gea.
However, the Spaniard will need to accept a huge pay-cut and the process is now underway with talks over a new long-term deal.
De Gea is currently the highest earner at the club at £375,000-a-week and he may need to slash his wages by 50 per cent to stay.
His current deal expires at the end of the season. United are aiming to hand him a fresh contract than triggering a one-year extension.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have taken the option to trigger the 12-month clauses for Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Fred.
The decision provides them with more time to negotiate new contracts. Among the above quartet, only Fred could be sold next summer.
