Manchester United have been handed a blow in signing Memphis Depay following the comments from Barcelona manager Xavi.

The Netherlands international has entered the final six months of his deal and it has been reported that he could be sold for around €5m.

United are one of the clubs interested in landing his services, but their plans could be shattered by Xavi's stance on the player' situation.

Xavi does not want to lose any player in the current transfer window and has now said that Depay will get minutes over the coming months.

He said: "I don't want anyone to leave. With these players, we will compete. I'm happy with what I have. Memphis can help us in attack. He will be important and he will get minutes."

Depay has been on the radar of several European clubs. Juventus and Chelsea were interested in signing him earlier in the summer.

The Blues were in talks with him over personal terms, but Depay eventually decided to stay put with the Catalans until the New Year.
