Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Croatian has been a regular for the Blues in their line-up, but his future is uncertain as his contract expires in less than 16 months.

Kovacic has yet to be convinced to pen a fresh renewal and he looks likely to head for the exit door when the transfer window reopens.

Manchester City and Liverpool have already been linked with his services and 90min claim that the Red Devils have entered the race.

The Mancunian giants consider him as a possible alternative to Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, who has no desire of leaving his club yet.

De Jong has been on the radar of Erik ten Hag since his appointment but the midfielder looks determined to continue with the Blaugrana.

Kovacic would be a good signing for United with his vast experience, but Ten Hag may want a young acquisition with more creativity.
