Man Utd star rejects new long-term contract
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has turned down a new long-term contract, according to The Athletic.
The Spain international has been a key player for the Red Devils over 12 seasons, but there is uncertainty over his future.
His current £375,000-a-week contract expires in the summer and United have yet to trigger a 12-month extension clause.
The club prefer to discuss a long-term deal instead, but there has been no progress regarding the same, as things stand.
As per The Athletic, De Gea is open to prolonging his stay, but he has no plans of accepting a huge pay-cut for the same.
It remains to be seen whether United are prepared to enter the negotiation table with him over the next couple of weeks.
If there is no progress over a renewal, the club could decide to activate the clause such that they have more time on their hands.
Erik ten Hag believes De Gea could serve the club for many more seasons.
