Arsenal wanted to sign N'Golo Kante?

Arsenal made an attempt to sign Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante during the January transfer window, as per Le Parisien.

The Gunners bolstered their squad with three signings last winter and this included the purchase of Jorginho from Chelsea.

The Italian was an intelligent signing for the club's midfield, but it appears they were initially keen on landing Kante.

Kante has endured a difficult season following a serious hamstring injury. He has only recently made his comeback for Chelsea.

His current deal with the Blues expires this summer and the club have yet to convince him to extend his stay with a renewal.

It will be interesting to see whether the Gunners will make a fresh move for him when the transfer window reopens this summer.

Arsenal are planning to make a couple of midfield additions and their prime focus could be on young and upcoming stars.

West Ham United's Declan Rice and Brighton & Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo could be the priority targets for them.
