Chelsea and Arsenal want to sign Belgian midfielder?
Chelsea and Arsenal could go head-to-head to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer.
The Belgian signed for the Saints from Manchester City for £14 million last summer. He has had a brilliant debut season.
While the Saints have been struggling at the bottom, Lavia has stood out with his individual displays from midfield.
The youngster has won nearly two tackles and five duels per game. He has completed 87 per cent of his passes.
It is now reported by Fabrizio Romano that Chelsea and Arsenal are keeping tabs on him ahead of the summer.
Both clubs are expected to spend on midfielders. They could target Lavia during the upcoming transfer window.
Manchester City currently have the option to buy him back for £40m, but that only becomes active in June 2024.
Hence, the Saints still have the negotiation power and could demand a higher transfer fee for the midfielder.
Lavia is expected to take up a bigger challenge away from the Saints this summer even if they avoid relegation.
