Liverpool and Newcastle want to sign Dutch defender

Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in signing Torino defender Perr Schuurs during this summer's transfer window.

Schuurs was on the radar of Liverpool last summer but he chose to join the Serie A outfit from Ajax for regular playing time.

The Dutchman has since been hugely impressive in their backline and it is now reported that the centre-back could move on soon.

As per The Mail, Liverpool are prepared to make a fresh move for the 23-year-old and are willing to guarantee him regular minutes.

However, they face a huge stumbling block in the form of Newcastle United, who are also striving to land the highly-rated Dutchman.

The Magpies have been a surprise package in the Premier League this term and they are currently fourth in the standings with 56 points.

The club are on course for a return to Champions League football which could put them in the driving seat to land Schuurs this summer.

Torino bought the defender from Ajax for just €9 million but they are expected to demand at least €40m to sanction his departure.
