Man Utd ready to break transfer record for Portuguese star

Goncalo Ramos news

Ramos to Man Utd soon?

Manchester United are reportedly ready to break their transfer record to sign Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos this summer.

The Portuguese has had a superb season with Benfica, bagging 25 goals and 11 assists from 44 appearances in all competitions.

His form has caught the eye of elite European clubs and The Mirror claim that United are hot on the trail for his signature.

The club are set to open negotiations with the Primeira Liga outfit and they are ready to discuss a potential club-record deal.

The Red Devils are prepared to pay around £70m up front for the centre-forward with a further £30m through add-ons.

This would take the overall fee to £100m, thereby eclipsing the £89m sum paid to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.

Ramos has been a fantastic performer for Benfica and he is open to pursuing a big challenge elsewhere this summer.

Chelsea enquired over the possibility of signing him in January but look set to miss out due to the lack of European football.
