Man Utd & Chelsea handed big blow in striker pursuit

Victor Osimhen news

Osimhen to stay at Napoli?

Manchester United and Chelsea have been handed a big blow in the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer.

The Nigerian has had a fantastic season in Naples, scoring 28 goals and providing five assists across all competitions.

His displays have grabbed attention of several clubs and it has been claimed that he could move to the Premier League.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Osimhen could end up staying with Napoli due to the stance of Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Napoli's president and owner is adamant that the striker is not for sale and he is prepared to keep him for another season at least.

Osimhen's current deal expires in the summer of 2025 and De Laurentiis is prepared to propose a new deal to the marksman.

Even if unsuccessful, he is prepared to keep him for the 2023/24 season unless he receives a substantial bid of £140m plus.

With the new UEFA squad cost rule in place, it remains to be seen whether Chelsea or United will make such a huge outlay.
