Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino pushing to sign South American star
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly pushing to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer.
The Blues are lining up a new defensive midfielder and Ugarte has been identified as the priority target for Pochettino.
Pochettino was only appointed as the Blues manager yesterday but the Argentine has been keeping tabs on Ugarte.
The former Spurs boss is a huge admirer of the 22-year-old and has urged the Blues to secure an agreement for his services.
Ugarte is a holding midfielder by trade. He has completed an impressive 92 per cent of his passes this term, winning four tackles.
The South American has also won over seven duels per game. He could be seen as a successor to outgoing star N'Golo Kante.
Kante was initially tipped to sign a new long-term deal but talks have stalled over recent weeks after a fresh injury blow.
The France international could be released by the Blues in the coming weeks. His current deal expires at the end of next month.
