Man Utd ready to trigger release clause of goalkeeper
Manchester United are ready to trigger the release clause of Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa, according to A Bola.
The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in European football and he is expected to leave Porto this summer.
United have been linked with him throughout the campaign and the outlet claim that they are ready to pay his €75m release clause.
The news could be a potential blow for David de Gea, who has been United's first-choice goalkeeper since the 2011/12 campaign.
The Spaniard is currently on the cusp of penning a new contract and Costa's arrival could mean that he could be the back-up option.
De Gea is obviously gifted with excellent reflexes in goal but the Spaniard is a traditional goalkeeper and has struggled to evolve.
The 32-year-old has been vulnerable when it comes to his passing under pressure while he does not like to come out of his box.
De Gea has also been criticised for conceding many long-range goals. Costa would be a solid upgrade on the experienced keeper.
