French defender agrees fresh terms with Arsenal

Saliba set to pen new Arsenal deal

French defender William Saliba has agreed to put pen-to-paper on a new long-term Arsenal contract.

The 22-year-old made his Gunners debut last season following loan spells with Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille.

He was terrific for the north London giants in the Premier League, but unfortunately picked up a back problem.

Saliba missed the final two months of the season, and it proved costly as they went on to finish second in the standings.

The Frenchman's previous deal was due to expire in 12 months, and the club have now agreed a four-year renewal.

Saliba previously turned down a contract offer of £120,000-a-week. It is likely that he could earn close to £200k weekly.

After Saliba's extension, the Gunners could concentrate on negotiating a long-term contract for captain Martin Odegaard.

Odegaard was a revelation for the Gunners in the last campaign. He managed 15 goals and eight assists in the league.

He was outstanding during the second half of the season, and there were no surprises that he was named the club's Player of the Year.
