West Ham make move for Elye Wahi
20-year-old forward Elye Wahi is on the verge of a move to West Ham, as the Hammers agree a transfer fee with Montpellier for the French under-21 striker. Wahi has caught the eye of several Premier League teams during the transfer window, but the Irons are now in first place to land the 6 foot attacker.
Folarin Balogun was amongst the names linked with a move to the London Stadium, but ultimately the price tag of the Arsenal striker was seen as too expensive. Wahi's transfer could be completed for around £25 million and is the Hammers' preferred alternative.
Wahi has been successful in previous campaigns in Ligue 1, scoring 19 goals in 33 top flight games last season, and the season prior a healthy return of 10 goals in 33 appearances.
L'Equipe reports this morning that West Ham's initial offer will likely be accepted and that the striker will fly to London for contract discussions next week. Montpellier have already rejected several offers for the player this summer and are keen to wrap up a deal swiftly.
