Gonzalo Montiel on his way to England

Sevilla and Nottingham Forest have agreed a £9.4 million package to sign Argentinian World Cup winning defender Gonzalo Montiel, with the player signing a four-year deal at the Premier League outfit. The 26-year-old right-back, who has played 46 games in La Liga, has appeared 23 times for his national team and is highly rated in his home country.

Since moving to Spain from River Plate in 2021, Montiel has failed to force his way into Sevilla's starting XI on a regular basis, and will now make a move to England where he expects to play week in, week out. Last season Montiel notched 28 games for Sevilla, mostly after returning from the World Cup in Qatar, and the season prior to that he only appeared 18 times in the Spanish top flight.

Nottingham Forest's transfer activity has been much quieter than the summer prior, but they will be spending a majority of their transfer funds on the acquisition of Montiel, who is likely to sign a three-year deal at the City Ground.

Reports indicate that Forest will beat Italian duo Genoa and Salernitana in agreeing a deal for the full-back.
