Arsenal exploring move for Spanish star after injury blow

Arsenal are considering a January move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to football.london.

The north London giants recently suffered a setback with Thomas Partey undergoing a thigh surgery and he could be out until 2024.

If the Ghanaian returns as planned, he may have to travel with his country for the African Cup of Nations to be held in the Ivory Coast.

With this in mind, the Gunners are looking for another defensive midfielder. They are currently keeping a close watch on Zubimendi.

The Spaniard was the subject of interest from the Gunners last summer, but he made it clear that he did not want to leave his club.

Zubimendi wanted to participate in the Champions League with the La Liga side this term and they are currently first in their group.

It is unclear whether he will consider a mid-season switch, but Arsenal may attempt to sign him when the transfer window reopens.

Arsenal may have to trigger the £52 million release clause in his contract in order to prise him away from Sociedad in January.
