Chelsea most interested in signing Barcelona defender

Chelsea are most interested in signing Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde at the end of the season, according to Sport.

The west London giants currently have Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella as their main left-backs, but both have had injury-plagued campaigns.

Chilwell suffered a hamstring injury in the early weeks of the season and he is only expected to return to action next year.

Meanwhile, Cucurella recently underwent a knee surgery and he is not anticipated to make a comeback for months.

The Blues are not actively planning to sign another left-back next month but it could realistically happen in the summer.

Balde's agent Jorge Mendes has informed Barcelona of Chelsea's interest and a transfer could well be on the cards.

The club graduate is not pushing for a move elsewhere, but the Blaugrana's financial concerns could urge them to sell next summer.

Manchester United and Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in signing the highly-rated full-back.
