Man Utd could've signed Antonio Rudiger
Former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick very nearly signed now Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger after the defender's contract at Chelsea drew to a close. Rangnick had opened talks with the German international defender, and ultimately the centre-back opted to move to La Liga.
When Rangnick arrived, he was not allowed to sign any new players and ultimately this meant that he missed out on signing Rudiger as well as the Man City forward Julian Alvarez. Both players have gone on to make an impression at their clubs; with Alvarez winning everything at the highest level for City, and Rudiger becoming the best centre back in the world.
United have had to resort to a defensive pairing of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in recent months, despite the recent return to the team of Raphael Varane.
Rudiger is seen as one of the players that could well have ended up at United.
Rangnick, now the current manager of the Austria national team, was not given much of an opportunity to reverse the fortunes of Man Utd, and ultimately left the club after a short spell.
