Man Utd given green light to sign Dutch defender

De Ligt to Man Utd this summer?

Manchester United have been given the green light to sign Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt during the summer.

De Ligt has been in-and-out of the starting line-up under manager Thomas Tuchel. Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae have been the preferred centre-backs for the German tactician.

This has spread speculation that the Dutchman is unhappy at the club and Sky Sport Germany claim that he is prepared to leave in the summer in the quest for regular first-team football.

Bayern are also prepared to part ways with his services, considering Tuchel has his sights on landing Ronald Araujo from Barcelona. If he arrives, De Ligt will be free to choose another club.

United could be his next destination, according to reports, if Erik ten Hag continues as manager. De Ligt played his best football under the Dutchman at Ajax and he is open to a reunion soon.

Arsenal are also admirers of the former Ajax graduate but they may not guarantee the Netherlands star with a starting role. At United, De Ligt could replace Raphael Varane next season.
