Arsenal move into pole position to sign Mikel Arteta favourite

Arsenal have moved into pole position to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners have followed the Spanish star for the past few seasons and they could finally get the opportunity to land his signature.

Zubimendi is expected to consider a new challenge in the summer and Arsenal are currently front-runners to win the race.

Bayern have also been following the highly-rated star, but their final decision would depend on the new head coach at the helm.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have seemingly cooled their interest. They are now looking at cost-cut alternatives in the market.

Zubimendi currently has a release clause worth €60m in his deal and Sociedad will certainly hold out for something similar.

The 25-year-old is already aware of the interest from the Gunners, and a deal could be a formality if personal terms are agreed.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has followed his compatriot for some period of time. He is considered as a replacement for Thomas Partey.
