Man Utd were one step away from signing Ligue 1 star
Manchester United were one step away from signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo earlier in the transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Red Devils were determined to secure an agreement for the Frenchman from their sister club, but the move was blocked by UEFA.
United and Nice are presently controlled by the same entity in INEOS owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe while they are both in the Europa League.
Hence, there is a written agreement that no transfers will take place between the clubs. They need to prove independence from each other.
The news is a huge blow for the Red Devils and Todibo. The centre-back was keen on joining the club and was left frustrated by the decision.
The former Barcelona man is still expected to leave Nice. He has already agreed personal terms with Juventus over a summer transfer.
The Bianconeri have refused to meet the €40 million valuation, but they remain optimistic of reaching an agreement in the near future.
