Manchester United could pursue a loan deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Red Devils are aiming to bolster the defensive midfield department and they have identified Ugarte as one of their top transfer targets.

However, they are not in a position to afford a permanent deal due to limited funds. Hence, the club are likely to propose an initial loan.

Ugarte has already given the green light for a potential move, but the final decision depends on PSG, who may want a replacement.

They are currently in negotiations with Benfica for wonderkid Joao Neves. His arrival could pave the way for Ugarte's possible exit.

Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in Ugarte, but they are likewise reluctant to meet the €50m asking price to sign him.

The Reds are on the look out for a more versatile and creative player and prefer to sign Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta instead.
