Celtic seal deal for Kasper Schmeichel
Celtic have signed Danish international goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on a one year deal, with the former Leicester City keeper lined up to replace Joe Hart at the club. The 37-year-old left Anderlecht on a free transfer on his contract expiry last summer, and now will return to the United Kingdom.
Schmeichel played for Belgian side Anderlecht last season, and previously had a spell with French club Nice and will replace Joe Hart who has now retired from football. Brendan Rodgers had previously managed Schmeichel while in charge at Leicester City.
Schmeichel told reporters after agreeing a contract: "Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success," he told the club website. Celtic is what football is all about."
Last season Schmeichel played 33 times in the Jupiler League and also captained Denmark during the Euro 2024 showpiece tournament and will be excited to return to the UK for an opportunity of more European football with the Scottish league champions.
