Chelsea could make contract offer to former Atletico star

Chelsea could make a contract offer to former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso in the coming days.

The Blues are in the process of parting ways with Trevoh Chalobah, who is attracting interest from three Premier League clubs.

His departure could coincide with a fresh arrival. The Blues are in discussions with the agent of Hermoso over a free transfer.

Hermoso made 174 appearances during his five years at Atletico but recently left after the expiry of his contract on June 30.

The 29-year-old has yet to pick his next club and reports in Spain claim that Chelsea could lure him to the Premier League this summer.

Hermoso has previously been on the radar of multiple English clubs and could be tempted to accept a new challenge in his career.

He is unlikely to be an assured starter next season, but manager Enzo Maresca could use him in a rotational role when required.

The Spaniard has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
