Liverpool eyeing surprise deal for 43-goal striker
Liverpool could make an ambitious move to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to Football Insider.
The Merseyside giants spent big money on Darwin Nunez two years ago, but the Uruguayan has been disappointing up front.
He has scored a reasonable tally of goals for the Reds, but has also been guilty of missing several big chances created for him.
Hence, the club could be prepared to spend big on a new marksman and it is reported that Gyokeres is currently on their radar.
The Swede was sensational for the Portuguese champions last season, scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists in all competitions.
He currently has a release clause worth €100 million in his contract, but reports claim that Sporting could sell him for around €80m.
Liverpool are not alone in the pursuit of the highly-rated star. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs on him.
Gyokeres underwent a knee operation at the end of May. He has returned in fine shape and recently scored a hat-trick in a friendly.
