Liverpool star suffers frustrating injury ahead of Man City clash

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has confirmed that he picked up a knee injury against Real Madrid in the Champions League in midweek.

The France international has been brilliant alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defence and his absence has come at the wrong time.

The Merseyside giants have an eight point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and have the chance to extend the lead further.

They host the Cityzens at Anfield on Sunday and manager Arne Slot will have to find a new partner for Van Dijk in the central defensive department.

Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez are the options at the manager's disposal and the former could be the favourite to replace Konate in the starting XI.

Meanwhile, Konate expressed frustration over his injury on Instagram.

He posted: "So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night. Now we start the recovery process but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again."

Liverpool have had a fantastic start to the campaign, but they have a tough schedule coming up. After City, they are due to face Newcastle United and Everton away from home.
