Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi ahead of a summer transfer, according to Ben Jacobs.

The Spain international has been a long-term target for the Gunners, and the club are now on the verge of landing his signature from Sociedad.

Zubimendi was reluctant to move to the Premier League with Liverpool last summer, but he has made a surprise U-turn to accept Arsenal's offer.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has reportedly placed a big role in the transfer decision. He has followed the midfielder's progress for the last two years.

Zubimendi's arrival at the Emirates Stadium means that midfielders Jorginho and Thomas Partey could leave on free transfer agreements this summer.

Both have not been offered contract extensions by the club and the big outlay on Zubimendi is expected to pave the way for their exits.

Arsenal are expected to trigger the €60m release clause in the 25-year-old's contract. An announcement could be made in the current window.
