Liverpool to battle Arsenal for Nico Williams?

Liverpool could battle it out with Arsenal to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams this summer.

The Spain international has been a long-term target for Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, and the club are weighing up a summer approach.

However, they may not be alone in the pursuit. Liverpool could enter the race with the possibility of Luis Diaz leaving when the season ends.

Barcelona have an interest in signing the Colombia international. Should a deal materialise, the Reds could focus on Williams as his successor.

Williams has a release clause worth £48m in his contract which should be affordable for both teams. However, his wages won't be straightforward.

He is already on more than £180,000 per week in Spain and could demand close to £300,000 weekly to make the move to the Premier League.

Arsenal seem prepared to make him one of the highest earners in their squad. Liverpool, on the other hand, could be sceptical about doing so.
