Chelsea back in for Benfica star after Huijsen transfer blow
Chelsea have revived their interest in signing Benfica centre-back Tomas Araujo after missing out on Dean Huijsen.
The Blues were keen on landing Huijsen from Bournemouth earlier this year, but Real Madrid have won the race to sign him.
The London giants need to find an alternative and Chelsea.News report that they have renewed their pursuit of Araujo.
Araujo was a top target for the Blues before the transfer deadline last summer, but Benfica were reluctant to sanction his exit.
However, the Portuguese giants could open the door for a deal this time.
Araujo has a release clause worth £67 million in his contract, but he could be purchased for between £42 million to £46 million.
The 23-year-old could be seen as a replacement for Wesley Fofana, who has endured an injury-ridden career with the London outfit.
Chelsea have grown frustrated by his injury situation. They could be tempted to consider his exit amid interest from Marseille.
Marseille could explore a loan deal with an option to buy.
