Man Utd handed blow with Arsenal in advanced talks to sign £68m star

Manchester United have been handed a blow in the pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to Portuguese outlet Record.

The Red Devils are determined to sign a marquee striker and Sky Sports recently reported that initial contact has been made for Gyokeres.

However, the club have now suffered a setback with the player's representative in contact with Arsenal's hierarchy over a transfer.

A meeting was held with the Gunners earlier on Wednesday and Record claim that the London giants are in advanced talks for the 27-year-old.

Gyokeres has a release clause worth £84m in his contract, but Sporting CP are prepared to sanction his sale for around £68m this summer.

Arsenal are simultaneously working on a deal for RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, but the German club want his £68m release clause to be paid in full.

On the contrary, Sporting CP are ready to accept a long-term payment plan for Gyokeres. Hence, Arsenal could end up purchasing the latter.
