Man Utd legend wanted Man City star at the Red Devils
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel wanted to bring Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to Old Trafford this summer.
The Italy international was a tremendous performer for Paris Saint-Germain last term. He played a big part in their Champions League success.
Despite this, he was deemed surplus to requirements by manager Luis Enrique and was told to pursue a new challenge before the transfer deadline.
United were mentioned as potential contenders for his services, but Donnarumma preferred to join the Cityzens and made the decision early.
Schmeichel has now revealed that his efforts were in vain. He told CBS Sports: "That’s why I am not an agent. I have been talking to him for actually more than a year.
"Pulled him, and I asked you to come to Man United, and you are in the wrong club here, and all he said was I am happy."
Donnarumma made his debut for the Cityzens in the Manchester derby. He pulled off a tremendous save in the 3-0 win over the Red Devils.
