Chelsea ready to break the bank for World Cup winner

Chelsea are ready to make a huge bid to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez during the summer transfer window, according to Sport in Spain.
The Argentine has been with Atletico since the summer of 2024 when he arrived from Manchester City for £65 million.
The striker has had instant success with the Madrid giants, but his future could be uncertain beyond the current season.
Alvarez is reportedly unhappy with his time at Atletico. The Madrid outfit have struggled to compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid for trophies.
Amidst this, Sport claim that Chelsea alongside Arsenal are ready to break the bank to land Alvarez, who could cost at least £87 million upfront.
Alvarez has no desire to return to the Premier League at the moment and he would prefer to continue in La Liga with arch-rivals Barcelona instead.
However, the World Cup winner is aware that Barcelona can't afford him due to FFP issues. They are planning to keep Robert Lewandowski with a new deal, as per reports.
Hence, there is a possibility that Alvarez could return to England. Chelsea are doing the groundwork for a potential transfer at the end of the season.
