Chelsea plan shock swoop for Sporting CP star

Chelsea are weighing up a surprise move for Sporting CP left-back Maxi Araujo ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Caught Offside.

The Blues are planning multiple signings this summer, and reports claim that they could pursue another left-back. Araujo has emerged as a top target amid his superb progress with Sporting CP over the past few years.

The 26-year-old is an attacking full-back, and he has already made 10 contributions this term for Sporting CP. Araujo has also impressed defensively, winning five duels and two tackles per appearance.

He has also excelled with an average of four recoveries and could make the step up from Sporting CP later this year. Chelsea are keen on landing him and may have to pay at least £45m to prise him away.

Manchester United have also been linked with the former Toluca man. The Red Devils could see him as a deputy and competitor to Luke Shaw.

Chelsea, on the other hand, may want him as an understudy to Marc Cucurella. He could compete with Jorrel Hato for rotational minutes.
