Arsenal eyeing move for Portuguese striker

Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on Monza striker Gustavo Varela after his tremendous start to the campaign.

The 21-year-old signed for the Italian outfit from Benfica last summer, and he has fared brilliantly with nine goals and one assist in all competitions.

His progress has caught the eye of elite European clubs and reports claim that Napoli have already made contact with his representatives this month.

However, the Italian heavyweights are set to face fierce competition from the Premier League, with Arsenal especially making moves for him.

The Gunners are eyeing a third striker alongside Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres, and Varela has been earmarked as a potential solution.

Arsenal have not engaged in any kind of negotiations with Monza, but they could open formal talks with the Serie A outfit at the turn of the year.

Monza signed the striker for a package of just £3m, and could be prepared to sanction his sale for a significant fee at the start of 2027.
