Defoe won't rejoin Spurs

Tottenham will not be resigning Jermain Defoe from Portsmouth - this season anyway - as a Premier League rule prevents a player from rejoining a club in the same season.

It is understood that Harry Redknapp is keen to raid his old club to land Jermain Defoe, but at this stage nothing has been agreed.

A Premier League rule states: "L19 rules that a club which transfers or cancels the registration of a player may not apply to register that player within a year. The only exception to that is if it has been made with the prior written consent of the Premier League board."
