Chelsea to bid for Owen?

It is understood from reports early this morning that Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari is considering a January transfer window move for Newcastle and England striker Michael Owen.

The report suggested that Chelsea were ready to spend £5 million to bring the forward to the club, and that Newcastle may allow the forward to leave as they look to generate cash.

The Toon may let Owen leave in order to pay off some of the enormous salary the 29 year old would continue to earn at St. James' Park.
