The Los Blancos president Florentino Perez and his good relationship with Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani helped Real Madrid in signing Kaka whom they had pursued for many years.

Kaka had earlier stated that he wanted to stay in Milan, but, the offer from the Spanish giants was too good to turn down. The 27-year old is negotiating deal believed to be worth £160,000-a-week.

The £62m is a new transfer record fee, the earlier being £47m paid by Perez for Zinedine Zidane from Juventus in 2001.
