Petr Cech to be given Vice Captain role
Petr Cech is set to be offered the opportunity to become vice-captain at Stamford Bridge as a part of a ploy from Jose Mourinho to ensure the experienced goalkeeper remains at the club.
Cech's future at Stamford Bridge has been subject to doubt for several weeks now, with Mourinho expected to keep Belgian Thibaut Courtois as Chelsea's new first-choice keeper next season following his return from an immensely successful loan spell with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
Cech has been linked with wealthy French clubs Monaco and PSG as well as Real Madrid in recent weeks.
The excellent displays by Courtois during his three seasons at the Vicente Calderon and also at the World Cup has confirmed his form on the big stage.
Whether such an offer to replace the recently departed figure of Frank Lampard as Chelsea's vice-captain will be enough to convince Cech to stay put remains to be seen.
He might also serve as a mentor for Thibaut Courtois and this healthy competition will be advantageous for the team as a whole.
