Former Chelsea star joins Championship outfit
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has made his return to English football with Stoke City on a one-year contract.
The Nigerian, who spent 11 years at Chelsea, has signed for the Potters following his release from Trabzonspor earlier this year.
He made 23 appearances for the Turkish outfit, but mutually parted ways in March after concerns over playing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
A number of Championship sides were linked with his signature, but Stoke have won the race and will be hoping to make the most of his services.
The club are aiming to make a return to the top-flight and manager Michael O'Neill has sought to reinforce the squad with experienced heads.
Aside from Mikel, James Chester, Morgan Fox and Stephen Fletcher have joined the Staffordshire outfit on free transfers.
The club have finished 16th and 15th respectively since their relegation from the top-flight in 2018.
It remains to be seen whether they can make the serious push for promotion next term.
