Everton to swoop for Newcastle United midfielder?
Everton could make a January move to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff, according to Liverpool Echo.
The Merseyside outfit were keen on the 23-year-old last summer, but they could not finalise an agreement with the Magpies.
Due to Financial Fair Play concerns, they could not afford to meet the reported £10m price tag for the central midfielder.
Longstaff could be available for a significantly lesser price in January as he will enter the final six months of his Magpies contract.
The Toffees are prepared to try again. The club are expected to spend, having recently eased their burden with James Rodriguez's exit.
They recently sold him to Al Rayyan for an undisclosed fee, but most importantly reduced their wage bill by £200,000-a-week.
Rafael Benitez will be backed with funds in January, and Longstaff appears as one of the prime targets for the Spanish tactician.
Longstaff has gone off the radar in recent years, but there has still been interest in him after the early potential shown in his career.
