Arsenal concerned they are becoming a feeder club

14 August 2011 - 11:16

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted he is worried that the Gunners are becoming a feeder club for Europe's most successful and richest sides.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Man Utd serious about signing Rafael Leao
  • In recent years, Arsenal have found that their star players have moved away from the Emirates in search of new challenges.

Barcelona look set to sign Cesc Fabregas shortly, but have also taken Alexander Hleb, Thierry Henry, Marc Overmars and Emmanuel Petit in recent years. Even squad players such as Gio van Bronckhorst found their career paths took them to the Nou Camp from the Emirates.

In recent times, Arsenal have also sold several players to Man City; with Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor and Gael Clichy all finding a move North suits their careers. Samir Nasri will soon link up with his former team mates at the Etihad Stadium too.

Wenger said: "Yes we are concerned by that.

"When you take players who are 16 or 17 years old and play them in the Premier League, you need to be brave. But you do it because they deserve it and secondly because you hope the club will be rewarded when these players are 23 or 24, and are in a position to deliver. "So it is a concern."
