Manchester United are apparently looking to buy back former player Giuseppe Rossi as a replacement for outbound Dimitar Berbatov.

  • Rossi was deemed surplus to requirements by Sir Alex Ferguson and left United in 2007, making two loan spells to Newcastle and Parma the year before.

He was signed by Villareal in 2007 and has since improved greatly, scoring 32 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions last year.

There was interest from Tottenham and Juventus in the summer, with the latter wanting to sign the player on loan with an option to buy.

His agent Federico Pastorello claimed, "Juve have sounded out the ground, as is usual for a big club in this period.

"There was an offer, more precisely for a loan with an option to buy and Villarreal rejected it. But since then several things have happened.

"It seems normal that an ambitious project like Juventus' marries well with Rossi’s identikit. He is obviously a youngster of great talent with a winning mentality."

However, the Red Devils included a buy-back clause in Rossi's Villareal contract and are likely to bring the player back to Old Trafford to boost attacking options, with Dimitar Berbatov seemingly on his way out of the club, and Micheal Owen being in poor form.
