Preview: Man Utd vs Wolves

Preview: Man Utd vs Wolves

10 December 2011 - 14:32

Manchester United suffered a humiliating defeat to Basel in midweek, and subsequently saw their hopes of Champions League glory go up in smoke. Alex Ferguson will be looking for a quick return to winning ways today as Wolverhampton Wanderers make the short journey north to Old Trafford.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • United's shock defeat in Basel saw United fall out of Europe early and now face the remainder of their European season playing in the Europa League. Wolves have not beaten United at Old Trafford in over 31 years, and Ferguson will be looking to extend that impressive record this afternoon.

The form is massively in favour of United. Wolves have failed to win away from home since the first day of the season, whilst United have a nice looking build up to the new year as they prepare to take on some of the Premier League's bottom half sides over the next 5 weeks.

Wayne Rooney has not scored a goal in his last eight games, and is expected to start up front with Danny Welbeck today as Javier Hernandez faces a spell on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Alex Ferguson may shuffle his side around after the disappointing midweek result. In addition, an injury to Nemanja Vidic in that game keeps the big Serb out of action until next season, so Sir Alex will be forced to tinker with his starting line up today.

    TEAMS

Nemanja Vidic misses out through injury, Dimitar Berbatov could also return. Michael Carrick is available after suspension. Jody Craddock will miss out for Wolves through injury.

    PREDICTION

    Man Utd 5-0 Wolves

    FIRST GOALSCORER:

    Ashley Young
