Arsenal eye January swoop for Jonathan Viera

15 December 2011 - 08:14

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to bring Spanish midfielder Jonathan Viera to the Emirates in January. The 22 year old attacking midfielder currently plays for Segunda Division side Las Palmas; and is expected to quit the club this year.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Viera has spent his whole career with the Gran Canaria based club, and most fans regard the playmaker to be one of the best young players Las Palmas have produced.

Since bursting on to the scene in 2008, Viera has since become a first team regular and this year enjoyed his first call up to the Spain under 21 side.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has a reputation for unearthing some of the best talent from around Europe, and particularly in Spain. Wenger reportedly wants to sign Viera as a replacement for Tomas Rosicky and Andrei Arshavin, after both players had been linked with a move away from the Gunners.

Las Palmas will command a hefty fee for Viera though, with a figure of around 5.75m GBP suggested.
