Preview: Arsenal vs Bolton

Preview: Arsenal vs Bolton

19 October 2007 - 23:07

Bolton will not be looking forward to their difficult trip to high-flying Arsenal. Archie Knox only just took the reigns in midweek after Sammy Lee left by mutual consent, and a trip to the Emirates is not the best place to start. Robin van Persie was injured in midweek, and the signs are that Eduardo or Theo Walcott will step in as Arsenal look to extend their lead at the top.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • Talk this week has been of Sammy Lee's departure and how Bolton will be able to rescue a dreadful start to the year. Even more worrying for Bolton is that key striker Nicolas Anelka is likely to miss out too.

Just goal difference is keeping the Trotters off the foot of the table as they've dropped 22 points, the same number as Arsenal have gained. It has been a terrible start to Bolton's campaign.

Robin van Persie is ruled out after suffering a knee injury in the Netherlands Euro 2008 Qualifier, whilst Eduardo da Silva is expected to lead the Gunners attack along with Emmanuel Adebayor. There were signs that Theo Walcott may make an appearance after impressing during his last couple of Premiership appearances.

Swiss defender Philippe Senderos is ruled out for a couple of weeks, but William Gallas returns - almost at the perfect time - to replace the defender.

Nicolas Anelka is likely to miss out while Christian Wilhelmsson (ankle) is also doubtful for Bolton.

Arsenal (from): Lehmann, Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy, Hleb, Fabregas, Flamini, Diaby, Adebayor, Eduardo, Almunia, Eboue, Walcott, Gilberto, Rosicky, Bendtner, Denilson.

Bolton (from): Jaaskelainen, Walker, Al Habsi, J O'Brien, Hunt, Meite, Michalik, A O'Brien, Cid, Gardner, Campo, Wilhelmsson, Teymourian, Nolan, Speed, McCann, Stelios, Alonso, Braaten, Guthrie, Diouf, Anelka, Davies

    Arsenal 2-0 Bolton

There can't be much hope of Bolton getting anything out of this match with Nicolas Anelka out. However, Knox will send his troops out with a defensive gameplan, but they will come unstuck as Eduardo is likely to take on the opportunity of some first-team action in Robin Van Persie's absence. Eduardo will take his chance well today and expect him to get on the score sheet. Bolton will shut up shop - albeit temporarily - and expect Arsenal to grab some late goals.

    Prediction: 2-0 to Arsenal

    Goalscorer: Eduardo
