John Terry not in charge at Chelsea

24 March 2012 - 05:40

Chelsea defender John Terry laughed off claims that he is in charge at Stamford Bridge, and put his backing behind Italian interim manager Roberto di Matteo. There had been rumours that Terry asked owner Roman Abramovich that former manager Andre Villas-Boas be fired.

  • Terry was seen shouting at his team mates in the victory over Napoli that guaranteed qualification to the next round of the Champions League for Chelsea.

"In response to comments suggesting that I think I'm the manager, I'd like to say Robbie has stepped up and been immense," said Terry.

"Had I still been on the pitch, I would have been saying the same things that I was from the bench. That is my role as captain of this club.

"Just because I have come off the pitch, it doesn't mean to say my mentality changes.

"People might see it in the wrong way, but I care about this football club - we all do - and Robbie and his backroom staff deserve full credit."
