Man Utd to complete Gaitan deal

Man Utd to complete Gaitan deal

16 April 2012 - 06:18

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal to bring Argentinian midfielder Nicolas Gaitan to Old Trafford at the end of the season. It is understood that Benfica have accepted a massive £21.1 million transfer fee, and will take Federico Macheda and Fabio da Silva on loan as part of the deal.

  • Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with the Benfica midfielder for over two years, and appears to have finally won the race to sign the coveted central midfielder.

Ferguson had hoped to sign Gaitan in the January transfer window, but his efforts were in vain as Benfica slapped a huge transfer fee on Gaitan. United then re-signed Paul Scholes who came out of retirement for the remainder of the season.

Whilst United are hopeful of keeping Scholes at Old Trafford for yet another season, it seems that Sir Alex will also sign Gaitan as he looks to the long term future at the club.

The 24-year-old will now discuss personal terms with United and is expected to wrap up a deal at the end of the season.
