Arsenal Desperate To Keep Koscielny

Arsenal Desperate To Keep Koscielny

17 June 2013 - 17:18

The Gunners look resolute to ward off all the transfer speculations linking their star defender Laurent Koscielny to the Catalans and the German champions Bayern Munich.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • Both the clubs have shown their interest in Koscielny in the past. Pep Guardiola's side has already confirmed that the player is a part of their transfer plans. Bayern needs a quality center-back, who could fall in Pep's playing strategy easily. The Bavarians have been scanning the market for a central defender after Holger Badstuber underwent a knee surgery in May.

On the other hand, Barcelona are in utter need of a proven left center-back who could fill in the void created by Eric Ebidal's release. Puyol and Pique (who has looked ordinary this season) are the two pillars of Barca defense but to bounce back as champions, they do need someone like Koscielny, who could help fortify Barcelona's back.

Both the FCBs have made enquiries about the France international and are willing to throw him an irresistible offer. The Gunners, however are trying to fend off their interest by labelling their in-demand defender at 20million pounds price tag. Though, this should not worry the footballing giants.

Arsenal have all the reasons to be unsettled with the clubs' growing interest in their in-form defender. Even with all the cash at his disposal, Arsene Wenger hasn't made big news in the market, although he does target Swansea City's Ashley Williams to rebuild his defence.

Earlier in June Koscielny expressed his feelings about his Arsenal stay:

"It is hard to not win titles year after year"

"We are competitors, professionals, we want to win. I want to add to my list of achievements. If Arsenal cannot allow me that, I'll seek a move elsewhere. I have to see if I have clubs interested in me. I will not go to any club."
