Dutch starlet Adam Maher has been chased by several European clubs this season following some promising performances he has given on the pitch.
With a transfer move for Maher to Ajax not ending in an agreement, it seems now that Arsenal are back as favourites to get his sign on their contract papers, although they are going to face some stiff contention with PSV Eindhoven, joining the race.
The Gunners have long been eying upon the AZ Alkmaar midfielder but with the addition of PSV to the list of clubs interested in Maher, things are not going to be as easy for them.
Good news for Arsenal comes from Gertjan Verbeek, Maher’s agent, who believes that Emirates would be the place for his client to grow. Verbeek told Sky Sports that,
“I think Arsenal is a perfect club for him. With Arsene Wenger, who worked with young talents like him before”
“He can get the most out of himself at Arsenal. Look at Robin van Persie, he joined Arsenal at a young age and look what he achieved.”
Even as a teenager, Maher has made 39 appearances for Alkmaar this season, including games in the Europa League. PSV have fastened their laces to capture the 19-year-old’s sign, needless to say Arsenal need to act fast if they want to seize this opportunity.
