Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Astonvilla's Darren Bent on a season long loan deal. The Aston Villa forward claimed yesterday that a move was imminent as long as the Toons agree with the wage structure.
Bent currently earns £80k a week at Villa Park, and as per reports from the Belfast Telegraph , the Magpies manager Alan Pardew has enticed the striker to accept a pay-cut in order to complete the move to St.James Park.
"I'm pushing Joe [Kinnear] to get a transfer in," Pardew is quoted as saying. "I think we need a boost now. We are in a situation where we want to progress now."
Bent signed for Aston Villa for a club record deal of £24m during the 2011/12 winter transfer window, but he has found himself well below the ranks under manager Paul Lambert.
