Skrtel: I had no plans to leave Liverpool

Martin Skrtel has laughed off talk that he nearly left Liverpool this summer, insisting that he had always been likely to stay at Anfield. The Danish international had been linked with a move to Barcelona.

Skrtel has attracted the interest of several teams in Europe, including Napoli and Barcelona, but instead decided to stay with the Merseyside giants.<br />

"The rumours were never as strong as it was made out," said Skrtel.<br />

"There was no contact with other clubs because the Liverpool management told me that they were counting on me. That is why a transfer was never in my plans."
